It is well-known that diversity and inclusion education increases patient and nurse satisfaction, improves the culture at work, and positively affects patient outcomes. Research shows that nurses often do not know the impact diversity and inclusive education has on patient outcomes. They also lack knowledge and skill in this area. It is important to increase the diversity of the nursing workforce and ensure that students are prepared to serve diverse populations to reduce racial health disparities. As part of an expansion of the nursing program at a Midwestern School of Nursing (MSN), a curricular review was conducted. The analysis revealed a gap between the program content and the industry-standard: diversity and inclusion. Therefore, a change in academic systems was needed to address three areas: students, faculty, and the current curriculum blueprint.
