By doing this, we suggest that early theories and models of cultural competency and patient centered-ness concentrated on potential interpersonal interactions between healthcare practitioners and patients and that later conceptual models broadened to consider the potential treatment of patients by the healthcare system overall. Moreover, to highlight the similarities and differences between the conceptual frameworks for the patient-centric approach and cultural competency, we examine them at the individual and healthcare system levels.
