ITECH1103 Analytics Report Assignment 2

 


This project aims to provide students with the experience necessary to create a data report that will give them useful insights into patterns and trends in a dataset. The dataset will be selected by the ITECH1103 Analytics Report Assignment 2. This assignment allows students to show their creativity and innovation when using the software to mine the data and create useful visualizations and solutions for data mining. These are then presented as Analytics Reports.

 The goal is to use the data given to uncover interesting patterns and trends. Your presentation should be aimed at upper-level management employees of the Company who have been given this task.

Tasks:

Task 1 Data selection: Select data sets with at least five characteristics. The primary option should be classification.

Task 2 Background Information: Write a short description of the project and data and their significance to the organization. Give a short overview of the purpose of the data, its source, and how it was collected and used.

Task 3 Data description:

  1. Identify the names and how many instances there are in the data.
  2. Mention which attribute is class.
  3. Include any missing values and other relevant characteristics in your description.

 Task 4 Data Preprocessing: Use filters to process the attributes. Techniques that work include removing certain attributes, trying out different methods for discrediting continuous attributes, and substituting missing values. 

  1. The numerical attributes are transformed into "nominal" attributes by encapsulating the numeric values at intervals.
  2. In ARFF documents, missing values are indicated by the symbol "?"
  3. Describe how you replaced missing values.

Task 5 Data mining: Compare and evaluate three algorithms used to mine data. Priority association rules, K-nearest neighbors, Decision tree induction. 

Task 6 Discussion: Explain your findings and how they relate to the technique. Be sure to mention any analysis-related assumptions you may have made.

Task 7 Report writing: Write a report. This report should be an analysis report.
